featured: Artspace ++

Hello to whoever still open this blog for the past months. To those who just found this, well, you're welcome to browse around!

I've been focusing on updating my website for the past six months, alongside all the assignments I have to do for school. Yes, school. Aside from my paid (and somewhat unpaid) jobs, I still have tons of labor to do when it comes to fine arts. It's been very fun --struggling through it and sort-of failing in juggling my multiple interests. For what it's worth, I think I'm getting better. My status as a student kind of compensates on my failures, even though I'm always aiming for a professional status, which means the self-disappointments are endless.

Meh, classic case of artist's ego.

A nice highlight that has been happening since last year is that I've got the opportunity to take lots of portraits for my friends' professional use! I guess that's an indication that people around you are advancing quite gracefully in their career, and a LinkedIn profile is like the cherry-on-top.

One of the most memorable sessions was when my photo theory professor asked me to take a portrait of her for an Artspace interview. Her works and perspective are badassly sincere, and she taught me how to be more critical and brave when it comes to fine arts approach in photography.

Living a life summer to summer.
Hope to be able to evolve together with those who keeps living to maintain their passion.

I'll see you in 48 hours, Jakarta :)

Another contribution for one of my favorite online shopping sites in Indonesia, and we were pretty much transforming B&W to be the new Holy Month green. I'm glad I got to work the whole concept out with Karina despite the fact that they were simultaneously preparing for their pre-event bazaar. I was a bit nervous about doing an in-studio photo shoot because I'm never used to it, but well there'll be time to do so in the future.

Click here to check the whole thing out.

Again I'd like to say congrats to the whole LocalBrand team and hopefully we'll work together on even bigger and better projects to represent Indonesia!

Did a quick shoot with an emerging Indonesian actor-on-stage Ruy Iskandar for this month's InStyle Indonesia. It was a great experience working with Ruy and Robyn, the assistant and stylist of the day. Roamed around the MET museum and Central Park for that whole afternoon with them, and ended the day at an oyster bar. It was a job that didn't really feel like one, which is good.

Thanks to Arifaldi and InStyle Indonesia for the opportunity. You guys are welcome to buy the magazine at your nearest bookstore if you want to know more about Ruy and his works in NYC!

Did a contribution for localbrand.co.id's e-magazine. It is such a pleasure for me to work with Dwimayu and her team to promote Indonesian fashion brands! The out-of-the-bubble experience gave me more than just a work experience, but also opens a path to knowing more people with varied creativity, ideas, and colors.

A great example would be the cover story below; Abigail the stylist created a concept of embracing the Mexican quirkiness of Frida Kahlo. It was challenging and different than what I usually do, but I was still able to work with her and Aldis (make up & hair) to smear the Kahlo-ness we had in mind all around the beautiful models, Tatyana and Iku.

If you're looking for an indoor flea market experience or in need of renewing your summer wardrobe, please come to their pre-event bazaar. It's going to be at the 8th floor of Senayan City starting July 4th until 6th. About 80-something local Indonesian brands are going to be there. Go to LocalFest.co.id for further info.

the mudde family.

Got another family picture gig! This time it's for Mr Terence Mudde, my homeroom/Humanities teacher back when I was grade 9. His wife also taught me piano when I was grade 4, and Terence taught both my brother and sister too. So it's a really great opportunity.

Their kids, Eli, Natalie, and Ethan were very active, so I have to rely on taking candid pictures for most of the shoot. It was harder than I thought, but I really love the way they laugh and smile so naturally. It doesn't feel like a photo shoot at all. It's more like a picnic, and I'm just there with Selina watching them play.

If I could take more pictures, I would, really. But time was running out, the sun's going down.
Anyways, here they are :)

the weeda family.

It's about time to speak more in my own visual blog.

So on Monday I did a favor for my homeroom/Economics teacher, Mr Stephen Weeda, to take pictures of his adorable family. They're gonna move back to America in three weeks, so they wanted to have some memories in their Indonesian house.

It started out a bit stiff, as usual, but then they loosened up and so the family atmosphere builds up too. I was a bit concerned about the lighting because it was quite a gloomy late afternoon, but I decided to worry less and make it work. Oh and I got assisted by my friend Selina. She helped me a lot with the compositions and locations. By the end of the shoot I think we both have gained such a great experience that day. Hopefully they'll like the pictures when they hang them in their house back in Michigan.

Anyways, although only a small batch, enjoy the pictures :)
